Rev. Ann M. Shade, Pastor

Pastor Shade began ministry and pastoral care to the family of St. Michael’s on April 1, 2024, and she was ordained on May 11, 2024. Pastor Shade’s faith journey is rooted in nearby Berks County where she grew up. She currently resides in Lansdale, Montgomery County, and is married to Bill, and they have two grown adult children, Hannah and Matthew.

Ministry is a second career for Pastor Shade, following her 20+ years of vocation in administration and human resources. She also obtained her Master of Divinity degree from United Lutheran Seminary, Philadelphia, PA and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Management from Eastern University, St. Davids, PA.

A prominent theme for Pastor Shade in her call to ministry is relational – she believes that our personal and community relationship with God is at the heart of our passion for ministry and serving, and it is the message of Christ’s peace and grace that guides us and encourages us to love and grow in our relationships with one another.

I will many times be the first person you encounter at St. Michael's, whether by telephone, e-mail, or stopping by the church office. A church member and volunteer since 1998, I began my "Office Ministry" in 2003. In addition to administrator tasks I sometimes serve as a Lector and Assisting Minister, as well as participating in the Adult and Bell Choirs.

If you have a question about St. Michael's, please let me know so I can assist or point you in the right direction.

I began my church music career in the 1960's, in my home church in Maryland, By the time I was 15 years old, I was playing for service every week and directing the Junior Choir until I left to go to college in Allentown. I graduated with a BA in music from Muhlenberg College.

Marriage to a Sellersville man brought me to the Pennridge area in 1971. Involvement in the area churches included helping to establish the Pennridge Cluster Choir as well as professional employment as organist and choir director for a number of churches. Most recently (1996) as St. Michael’s Music Director. Additional accomplishments include running a summer music camp for almost 20 years.

I have been a Suzuki piano teacher for 40+ years and continue to teach.

As a lifelong member of St. Michael's Church, I am deeply honored to be the Director of Christian Education. I am excited to help children learn about God’s love and the Bible. One of my favorite parts of being the director is organizing Vacation Bible School.

I graduated from East Stroudsburg University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary education. I have taught kindergarten, first and second grades in the Pennridge School District. While teaching I continued my education by earning a Master's Degree at Kutztown University. As a part of my Master's program I became a certified reading specialist. After the Master’s, I earned additional credits. It is my strong belief that learning should never stop, because when you're through learning, you're through.

I have been married to a wonderful man named Jim for over 4 decades. We have several cats. My hobbies include traveling, reading, gardening, collecting all kinds of glass, and working on crafts.
